Percy W Day Trophy

1929 – Present Day

Played for individually just once – won by Percy W Day – this trophy of which the club had no record, disappeared for nearly sixty years. In 1990 Ted Adderley, the club captain at the time, received a telephone call asking whether he was in any way involved with Hout Bay Golf Club.

The caller, a Mr Riley, arranged a meeting with Ted Adderley where he returned the Goodwin Cup. The trophy had been found in a cupboard when clearing Mr Riley’s late father’s possessions. He had absolutely no idea how it came into his father’s possession!

This marvellous trophy subsequently became the annual trophy for the annual Hout Bay Golf Club versus Olympics Sports Club challenge until 2015.

In 2018 a “reciprocity” arrangement from the Langebaan Golf Club resulted in an enjoyable annual challenge between Hout Bay Golf Club and Langebaan, played at the scenic and challenging Langebaan Country Estate.
